Are you impressed with the ability of Trados Studio to convert and translate PDF files. I am not surprised because it uses one of the best PDF converter under the hood (see the image below). The "engine" that is used by Trados comes from

The reason you would need to use Solid Converter is because some popular do not have built-in PDF conversion feature. Or even if you own Trados Studio you still may want to convert your PDF manually because you have choose various conversion options which are not available in Trados.

I have been using this tool long before it was integrated into Trados Studio. From my experience it's just the best tool for converting "clean" PDF files to various editable formats (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, TXT and CSV).

After installing Solid Converter, you can open any clean PDF file by clicking on the round button (1), then choose the conversion mode (2) and choose the output format and click the convert button (3).

Alternatively, you can open any PDF file via context menu. Right click on any file and choose the follow command:

How to remove Automated Translation from Trados Studio SDLXLIFF files.

There are a couple of methods to change the "AT", aka Automated Translation status, in Trados Studio SDXLIFF files. You can use a text editor (notepad, notepad++ etc.) to remove the status manually.
It's rather tedious to perform all those find & replace commands so I created a small utility for this purpose - removing all AT marks... automatically.

How to use: Run the utility and click the Plus symbol to add a file. That's it.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop an sdlxliff file on the app.

How to create a Translation Memory in Trados Studio

In this post, I am going to show you how to create a Translation Memory (TM) in SDL Trados Studio 2015 (Studio).

There are different routes in Studio you can perform to create a file-based TM.

You will be ready to create a new TM as soon as the New Translation Memory dialog appears.

As illustrated in the first diagram, here are various ways to summon that window:

•    By pressing key combination: Alt+Shift+N. This is probably the shortest way to bring it into view.

•    By clicking  File -> New -> New Translation Memory.

•    During New Project Wizard. You create a new project, step through Project Details Page -> Project Languages Page -> Project Files Page -> Translation Memory and Automated Translation Page

•    From the Translation Memories View. You select the Translation Memories button on the Navigation Pane to activate the Translation Memories View and select the New command on the Ribbon.

•    From Project Settings. You select the Project Settings command on the Ribbon and select Language Pairs -> All Language Pairs -> Translation Memory and Automated Translation on the left Pane of the Project window.

On seeing the New Translation Memory dialog you just need to enter the name of your TM, choose the language pairs, storage location and click Finish button. It is as simple as that.
